  • Reuse a plastic frosting container to heat soup in the microwave.

  • Wrap rubber bands and hair binders around a paper-towel tube (figure A) to keep them organized.

  • Store baby food jars in a potato chip canister (figure B) when traveling to prevent them from breaking or spilling.

  • Reuse potato chip canisters to send homemade cookies in the mail (figure C), or to take to someone as a housewarming gift. Decorate the canister if preferred.

  • Use a smaller canister such as one that croutons come in, for storing things like trussing needles or safety pins. You could also refill the box with homemade croutons.

  • Use two paper towel tubes when packing a pair of pants in a suitcase, placing them in the folds to prevent creases.

  • Clean out an orange juice cylinder, then fill it with cookie dough and refrigerate. When you are ready to make the cookies, simply cut off the container and slice the dough (figure D).
