3. Repeat every five to six inches around the perimeter of the mat, creating a border all around (figure A).

Textured Black Rubber Mat
Stamp on designs using contrasting inks or acrylic paints to create a motif. Leaf designs work well on this type of mat (figure B).

Plastic Mat
A door mat with a written message is super fun, and a low-pile plastic grass mat makes a great canvas for this.

1. Tape down stencils spelling out a message (figure C).

2. Cover the exposed edges of the mat and spray paint over the stencil.

3. Allow to dry then remove the stencil (figure D).

4. Add splashes of color using hot glue to attach artificial flowers on the mat along side edges (figure E), keeping the top, bottom and center clear for wiping feet.

Note: If you have high-pile grass mats, the spray paint doesn't work as well, but the flowers still look great. Just attach the blooms (figure F) with hot glue as described in step 4.
